The Saving Eureka

Last night my jaw tightened like a vice

as I wandered cluttered city streets

with all cars swapped for electric scooters

and each marquee left blank, letters

piled in various curses on the ground.

Police dedicated most enforcement

to the Plastic Straw Law and

disposable cameras were the only

ones sold, in dark bodegas

catering to the super rich. I looked

for my pill man everywhere,

but each corner I turned

was a redux as I mumbled along,

the newest plague starting

to climb the center skyscraper,

necessity intensifying before

I woke with a scream to begin halting

destroying myself again.
