Maddie Hinrichs

Maddie Hinrichs is an MFA Candidate at the University at Albany. She received her BFA from the University of Lincoln-Nebraska in 2019. She works with oil painting and embroidery mediums. Her paintings depict midwestern interiors that have parts of the unicorn tapestries seamlessly collaged within them. The blending of these worlds form new narratives that elevate the deer which haunts the familiar, dated interiors. Her embroidered work encompasses subject matter such as graffiti, posters, and exteriors of buildings. The crop of the embroidery, the lack of color, the fragments of text, and partially formed people create an abstract space where the viewer can fit what they see into their own context.
