Aaron Caycedo-Kimura
Collusion
I sprinkle crushed eggshells around
the hostas to keep slugs from chewing
more holes in the leaves. Some say
this works, some say it’s a waste
of time. Later outside my breezeway,
tiny crunches from under the glow
of a striated leaf—a female cardinal,
orange beak picking at the bits.
